Exercise Crown Shield 2026

Crown Shield is the RDFLL’s annual joint command-post and civil-resilience exercise. The 2026 exercise tests communications, emergency logistics and coordination between the four services.

Standing commitments

  • Airspace observation and incident reporting
  • Support to civil authorities during emergencies
  • Coastal and inland-water patrols
  • Joint ceremonial duties

No overseas combat deployment is currently published.

Authority to operate

Every operation requires a defined legal basis, a named commander and written objectives. Domestic support remains under civilian lead unless Parliament authorises otherwise.

Exercise safety

Exercises use risk assessments, medical cover and clear public information where activity may be visible. Lessons are recorded after each exercise and used to amend future plans.
